Grammar 4: Quechua verbs conjugation – Present continuous

Perhaps, in learning the simple present conjugation of Quechua you were wondering about the past or future tense, do not worry, we talk about it in future lessons, but first let’s talk about the present continuous.

We use the suffix -sha to express the present continuous in Quechua, it is added between the verb root and the verb ending, very easy, right? Look at this formula:

Verb root + sha + verb ending

I am sure that with the following examples the idea will be very clear to you.

1. The verb Hamuy (to come) in the present continuous

Noqa hamushaniI am coming
Qan hamushankiYou are coming
Pay hamushanHe is coming / She is coming
Noqanchis hamushanchisWe are coming (addressee included)
Noqayku hamushaykuWe are coming (addressee not included)
Qankuna hamushankichisYou [guys] are coming
Paykuna hamushankuThey are coming

2. The verb Qoy (to give) in the present continuous

Noqa qoshaniI am giving
Qan qoshankiYou are giving
Pay qoshanHe is giving / She is giving
Noqanchis qoshanchisWe are giving (addressee included)
Noqayku qoshaykuWe are giving (addressee not included)
Qankuna qoshankichisYou [guys] are giving
Paykuna qoshankuThey are giving

3. The verb Apay (to bring) in the present continuous

Noqa apashaniI am bringing
Qan apashankiYou are bringing
Pay apashanHe is bringing / She is bringing
Noqanchis apashanchisWe are bringing (addressee included)
Noqayku apashaykuWe are bringing (addressee not included)
Qankuna apashankichisYou [guys] are bringing
Paykuna apashankuThey are bringing
