- Dad, father: Tayta or papa, the most usual is to say Taytáy or Papáy (My dad, my father, is an expression of affection)
A custom for Quechua-speakers (and for those who live in Cusco and other Quechua places) is to use the words “papa” and “mama” as an expression of respect and affection used when addressing someone other than their parents.
It is very common for someone to address a man like ‘papa’, instead of ‘gentleman’, and a woman like ‘mama’ instead of ‘lady’.
